The origin and inspiration of Fish Sticks Spearguns

I guess you could say spearfishing runs in my family. My grandfather passed it down to my dad and my dad introduced it to me. I saw my first gag grouper get shot when I was 10 years old while diving with my father and that was something I never forgot.

Fast forward to 2010 I joined the U.S. Coast Guard and my first station was aboard a 270 ft cutter in Key West, Florida. That vessel took me to nearly every country in the carribbean. On a hot day in cuba my fire for spearfishing was reignited.

Shooting black grouper and hogfish with a couple buddies at cable beach in Guantanamo bay was the first I had speared in almost 10 years. Thats also when I started my freediving journey.

Jump ahead again I was out of the Coast Guard and back in florida after leaving my last station in virginia. FIshing and spearing were back in view.

I was tired of using the usual spearguns and wanted to make something of my own. Not being one to buy something without trying to make my own first I decided to give it a go. My good buddy Ryan and myself started researching and coming up with ideas to make our own spearguns. After trial and error we had some handcrafted wooden spearguns that worked!

I wanted a gun tailored to spear in Florida's waters. I wanted something designed for rocks and ledges but able to shoot at distance and depth. I wanted my own creation that worked well with the many florida enviorments.

Once my friends saw the guns they asked if I'd build them one. Then friends of friends asked and as my guns gained traction and I honed my woodworking skills I decided to make it a business.

So from there I started FIsh Sticks Spearguns! My guns have since shot more fish then I could count and have made their way down to key west and all the way up north to michigan.
